First Hand!

Walk in. Look around. Make the call.

Missions that run in real time. You're on the office floor, or at the controls of a city's power and water in a storm. The clock is running, and what you notice decides what happens next.

Ice Storm, 1998

Sixty hours in Montreal's great ice storm. The lines into the island fall one by one; at 12:38 on Friday both filtration plants go dark. Shed load to save the last line, stretch the water reserve, call in the army, and decide what to tell the public when there's no way off the island.

How a mission works

Walk in

Someone tells you what's happening and gives you your first move. A NEXT panel and gold markers point the way, or you can turn them off.

Look around

Read the whiteboard, check the timestamps, talk to the people on shift, watch the backup clocks. The clue that matters is rarely the nearest one.

Make the call

The clock keeps running while you decide. The debrief shows what happened, in order, and the practice behind each call.
